The University of Birmingham and PwC have collaborated to launch a four year, fully-funded technology degree apprenticeship to develop the UK's next generation of technology talent, to meet the needs of industry.
We’re very happy to announce that the School of Computer Science has been ranked 8th for Computer Science out of all UK Institutions in the Guardian League Table 2018.
Many congratulations to Rajiv Ranjan Singh, one of our first year Doctoral Research students, who recently won the Research Skills award for his conference presentation. Each year, the School of Computer Science runs a skills programme for its newly arrived research students. As part of this, they take part in a mini-conference, each giving a 20 minute conference presentation. The audience vote for the best speaker and this year Rajiv was the winner. Head of School Professor Andrew Howes met with Rajiv earlier today to congratulate him and present him with an award certificate.
The University will be hosting a Postgraduate Open Day on Friday 22nd November 2017. The School of Computer Science will be giving talks, manning stands, performing tours and showing demonstrations.
The School will once again be hosting the Computing at Schools Conference 2017, on Saturday 17th June 2017. Following on from previous successful conferences, we are expecting over 350 teachers (from both primary and secondary schools) looking to update both their subject knowledge and approach to teaching computing in their schools. The conference will be packed full of keynote talks, workshops and networking opportunities, and aims to bring the CAS community together once again.

The School of Computer Science is hosting its inaugural super careers fair of the academic year – the first Software Engineering, Consultancy and Technology Role in Finance Fair. Taking place on Thurs 27th October between 11am-3pm in the department, over 25 employers from various industries will be coming along to talk to our students about graduate jobs, placements and internships in general Software Engineering, Computing for online services; Financial Computing; IT Consultancy; Security Software Engineering, Digital Forensics and Cyber Security; Cloud and BigData Software Engineering and teaching.
