My research is mainly within Natural Language Processing, and is specifically concerned with the reasoning needed for the processing of metaphorical utterances. I am interested in figurative language more generally, and specifically in metonymy.

Another major research concern is the question of how to reason uncertainly about mental states such as belief, especially when nested (beliefs about beliefs, etc.) Additional interests include diagrammatic reasoning and case-based reasoning.

In all my work I am concerned about how human beings do things as well as how to get artefacts to do them.
