MSc in Computer Science
Tuition Fees for our Computer Science MSc courses
The University charges an annual fee which includes tuition, examination and graduation, as well as fees payable to the Guild of Students. Fees are usually paid annually in advance at the start of the programme but it is possible for you to pay by instalments providing certain conditions are met. A small charge is made for this service.
Tuition Fees
Home and EU Students 2013/14
Full-time: £5,130
Overseas Students 2013/14
Full-time: £16,770
(The University Council reserves the right to revise fees at any time without previous notice). You can check the current University Fees on the University website.
An offer of a place at the University cannot be confirmed until evidence that you can pay your tuition fees and support yourself has been produced - for example evidence of a scholarship award from an awarding body such as The British Council. If you are a self-financing student, you will be required to sign a statement that you accept your obligation to pay fees and that you will do so when they are due. You will not be permitted to continue your studies if you fail to pay the fees.
The University fees do not take into account the cost of accommodation, living expenses, equipment or books. We estimate that for a period of twelve months you will need a minimum of £8,000 for these.
Definition of Home and Overseas Students
The fees you will have to pay depend on whether you are classified as an 'overseas student' for fees purposes. The rules for this are set by the British Government. In general terms the higher overseas fees will be charged to students who do not have a 'relevant connection' with the United Kingdom and Islands. A student is defined as having a 'relevant connection' if:
- he or she has been ordinarily resident therein throughout the three-year period preceding 1 September, 1 January or 1 April closest to the beginning of the first term of the student's course, and
- he or she has not been resident therein, during any part of that three-year period, wholly or mainly for the purpose of full-time education, and
- he or she has no time limit or other immigration restriction on his/her stay in the UK.
The Regulations include provisions whereby higher fees may not be charged to 'excepted students,' a group which includes those from the European Union and those who have not been ordinarily resident solely because they, or their spouse or parents, have been temporarily employed outside the UK or EU. Proof of the temporary nature of this employment is required (for example, fixed-term contract).
