Qualifications: Computer Science/Software Engineering with Business Studies, 2005
Current job: System Testing for LogicaCMG, reading documentation, working to strict deadlines and interaction with team members
My role involves testing systems, diagnosing and fixing faults, writing diagnostic programs. I also write documentation and make recommendations for future developments to software or operating systems.
Which skills learnt at university benefit you particularly in your job?
Business related skills, such as teamwork, group exercises, and project management
How did you progress from university into your current job?
Applied for graduate jobs as soon as my degree was completed. I found that work experience of some sort, even 3 months is very beneficial and helped me get the job I wanted. I would advise all students to apply for summer placements or even work experience during the holidays.
What is your career plan for the future?
To move into a more Business Analysis role
What were the best things about studying Computer Science at Birmingham?
Good lecturers and excellent course packages which allowed me to choose a course that suited my needs. For example, I wanted a computer science course that involved Business and this was available to me. I felt the staff members were very supportive towards students which was important to me.
What are the best things about your current job?
Using my business skill and I feel it's a step in the right direction in terms of career movement
