Demonstrator availability

Demonstrators are available to assist you with your work in lab sessions. If you would like help during the listed times, please attend a convenient lab session and find a demonstrator. During busy periods you might have to wait to see a demonstrator, so alert them of your presence and please be patient. Demonstrators are able to assist you with your continuous assessment and other questions you may have about Java.

The demonstrators often complain that some students rely too heavily on the demonstrators: You are expected to give yourself at least 15 minutes to try to solve your problems by yourself, and then ask a demonstrator for help. This allows

  1. students to learn to fix your code-errors, and
  2. other students to get a fair chance of support

As a result, the demonstrators have the full right to refuse to help a student that asks too many questions per hour; we expect at least 15-20 minutes effort in trying to solve your exceptions that arise during the lab time. [That's even if the demonstrators are free, you need to learn to debug, you will be on your own when doing your third year project].

The demonstrators are not there to do your debugging job or to code for you! They are there to show you *how* to debug, and so its the student's responsibility to fix their code problems.

We want an equal opportunity for all students, and the best for every student.
