i. Prior to undertaking any student research project, it is required that a self assessment of the ethical issues arising from all proposed work is undertaken (see above for a link to the form). All undergraduate and MSc students must complete a form for each project that they undertake. The purpose of the form is to identify those projects which may raise ethical issues. All forms will be submitted to the Project Coordinators.
ii. For those projects which do raise ethical issues (as determined by the project coordinators), an ethics review is required.
iii. The ethics review will consider the ethical issues raised within a project, and if necessary appropriate guidance should be provided to the student on how to address the ethical issues raised.
iv. No project which raises ethical issues will commence until ethical approval has been granted.
v. Each ethics review will be conducted by a minimum of two members of academic staff (one of whom may be the student's academic supervisor and the other of whom will be a project coordinator).
vi. Records will be kept within the School/College, listing those projects which have undergone ethical review and the review outcome.
