Outline

This module introduces the foundations of Operating Systems and Network technologies. In addition the module provides opportunity for hands-on lab sessions of learning about a selection of essential Operating Systems and Network skills.

The aims of this module are to:

Learning Outcomes

On successful completion of this module, the student should be able to: Assessed by:
1 Demonstrate an understanding of the fundamental concepts and issues involved in OS and networking of IP-based systems To be confirmed
2 Interact and manage an Operating System To be confirmed
3 Demonstrate an understanding of the challenges involved in the design of Distributed Systems in general and main methods of addressing them To be confirmed
4 Explain Transport Layer protocols and their differences To be confirmed
5 Understand the basics and practical issues and architectures involving in important Application Layer protocols To be confirmed
6 Demonstrate practical understanding of the theoretical foundations of Operating Systems and Distributed Systems To be confirmed
