The Distributed Systems Lab

We conduct  research in all aspects of parallel and distributed computing at different levels, from instruction level parallel systems to large scale complex socio-technical systems. Our work focuses on:

  • fundamental algorithms and techniques targeting both, infrastructure issues and application concepts
  • the design and development of experimental infrastructures and research prototypes, both hardware and software
  • techniques for the modelling and analysis of systems.

Domains of particular interest include:

  • Distributed Simulation, as both a distributed system per se as well as a simulation approach for analysing large complex systems
  • Distributed Virtual Environments
  • Multi-agent systems,
  • Dynamic Data Driven Application Systems,
  • Computer architectures
  • Peer-to-peer systems
  • Grid computing and e-Science.

We participate in national and international research consortia and in regional  infrastructure initiatives. The Lab has been

We are also committed to interdisciplinary and Mode 2 research and we have been involved in a number of interdisciplinary initiatives and projects (such as AIMSS and MWGrid).
