General Information About Learning in Fido
Aaron Sloman

This is just a place-holder. There will be much in Fido that is innate (or preconfigured) and much that is learnt, using different kinds of learning mechanisms producing different kinds of consequences, e.g. ontology extension, new forms of representation, new practical skills, new perceptual competences, new reasoning competences, new abilities to do old tasks more fluently and accurately, new theories, etc.

One kind of learning that seems to be characteristic of only a very few altricial species is developing multiple orthogonal competences that can be recombined in novel ways in perceiving, planning, understanding the environment, predicting what will happen and in various kinds of action.

Some first draft notes on that can be found here That file is actually an extract from this longer PDF presentation on 'A (possibly) new theory of vision'.

A presentation on learning about causation is here: 'Two views of child as scientist: Humean and Kantian'.
