I studied Computer Science with specialisation in Robotics and Intelligent Machines at the University of Essex (BSc class I, 2005). I then continued at Essex and studied Embedded Systems and Robotics (MSc with distinction, 2006), writing my masters thesis on omnidirectional stereo vision for mobile robot systems. After masters, I spent three months at the University of Saitama, Japan, as a visiting researcher working on urban mapping using omnidirectional cameras mounted on a standard car.

I subsequently moved to the University of Ulster's Intelligent Systems Research Centre to complete my PhD, where I helped design a new world-class robotics research lab. My PhD concerned algorithms for efficient mobile robot navigation, with emphasis on the use of low-cost omnidirectional cameras.
