Student Projects
I am willing to supervise projects students in the following topic areas:
- Evolutionary Computation
- Embryological/Developmental models
- Modularity/Scalability/Robustness in Development/Evolution
- Nature inspired creative design
- Evolutionary art
- Mass customisation
- Energy Analysis/Management
Some project ideas include:
- Evolutionary design using computational fluid dynamics
The approach here would be to utilise an interactive evolutionary
approach to manipulate the computational fluid dynamics model
parameters to obtain visually appealing results. This project may
require a significant amount of mathematics.
- Role of development in producing complexity
Modelling the growth processes we observe in nature may be of concern
for a wide variety of reasons. Project suggestions that investigate
the application of growth and development are welcome. I'm
particularly interested in those that examine some of the innate
characteristics that may occur, such as robustness and scalability.
- Optimal purchasing strategies in the energy markets
The energy market is very complex making it very difficult to
forecast. Deciding when and how much energy to buy is becoming a more
important issue for many large industries. Finding optimal purchasing
strategies which reduce costs is not only reliant on estimates of
future prices but must also take into account many other constraints.
You can find me in Rm 244, I don't have a fixed timetable so if I'm not around please email to arrange a convenient time to meet.
