Interactive Web Helper for Postgraduate Applications
The aim of this project is to guide prospective students through our various postgraduate degree programmes to the one that is best suited for them. The project should be written in clean XHTML, Cascading Style Sheets and Javascript, perhaps some PHP, so that it works on all standards-compliant browsers and is easy to modify if any of the programmes change. Some other design points are:
- Relevance of the information: students from the UK know what an Upper Second is, while most of the world has never heard of that term. Display information where needed. Likewise, Conversion MSc applicants have different background knowledge from CS graduates.
- A flowchart explaining the steps in the application process, with clear navigation.
- A decision tree diagram for the various MSc degrees, ideally clickable.
- Interactive selection of MSc programmes based on previous degree and interests.
- Possible extensions: uploading of documents (e.g., transcripts), making informed (!) enquiries to the appropriate admissions tutor.
- Possible variation: interactive course chooser not just for CS, but the whole of the College of Engineering and Physical Sciences.

I am happy if someone else supervises this project, particularly if I am fully booked with projects for the other MScs. Most people should be able to supervise this topic, and MSc admission tutors could give valuable input. Please let me know if you are interested, whether with me or someone else as the supervisor.
Interactive website visualization
This project should allow the user to view the structure of a small website and assist them in maintaining the links and navigation within it. It could, for instance, display a clickable sitemap. There are of course commercial tools for doing this sort of thing, but the project should emphasize ease of use for naive users with a website of moderate size (for instance, the admissions site of a department in this university).
