Biography
Jeremy Wyatt graduated with a BA in Theology from the University of Bristol in 1990, and subsequently obtained an MSc in Intelligent Knowledge Based Systems from the University of Sussex (1992). His doctoral work, on the role of exploration and inference in reinforcement learning was carried out in the Department of Artificial Intelligence at the University of Edinburgh. Now a lecturer in the School of Computer Science at the University of Birmingham, his interests revolve around robot learning, reinforcement learning, and statistical approaches to machine learning. His current and recent research projects include the application of reinforcement learning to mobile robots; the design and analysis of experiments in robot learning; optimal exploration in reinforcement learning; task driven hidden Markov modelling; neural network ensembles; learning to segment and classify robot time series; the use of factored graphical models in reinforcement learning; hierarchy in reinforcement learning; and evolution of visual processing using genetic programming.
Jeremy runs the Intelligent Robotics Laboratory at the School of Computer Science, has served on a number of programme committees, reviews for conferences and journals and has been an invited speaker at a number of workshops and summer schools. His teaching has included undergraduate courses in introductory AI, neural networks, AI programming, human computer interaction and intelligent robotics. His teaching interests have also included the development of an on-line neural networks resource; and a programming environment for novice programmers to experiment with and construct intelligent agents.
