This sheet is designed

- to prepare you for some of the material to be presented later in the course;
- to place NLP in the wider context of Artificial Intelligence;
- to develop your skills of finding out for yourself;
- to develop your powers of analysis and evaluation.
Part 2: Finite State Automata and Morphology

- to develop your powers of analysis and evaluation by using some of the examples given in the teaching material;
- to contribute to your understanding of how Prolog can be used to implement NLP systems.
Part 3: Syntax and Syntactic Processors
This sheet is designed
- to add to your knowledge of the material in Part 3 - Syntax and Syntactic Processors;
- to contribute to your understanding of how Prolog can be used to implement NLP systems by showing the implementation of context-free parsing systems.
