ISO Latin1

'Special' characters from the ISO Latin1 or ISO-8859-1 alphabet can be entered into HTML code as &name; (e.g. ©) or as &number; (e.g. &169;). Not all characters may be available to the browser, depending on the operating system and the codings and fonts in use.

MacRoman, the coding used in the Macintosh operating system, does not provide the characters starred below. Under Mac OS X, browsers will usually substitute Unicode characters, but where correct display is critical, they are best avoided.

Browsers in countries not using the Latin alphabet may display non-Latin alphabetic characters instead of the ISO Latin1 characters.
