Me: I am a Ph.D. student at the School of Computer Science at The University of Birmingham. From 2008-2009 I took the MSc Advanced Computer Science here and graduated with distinction in December 2009. Before that there was a huge gap since my Computer Science B.Sc. at Loughborough University of Technology (as it was then called).
During that gap I worked for ICL (now Fujitsu), Dixons Stores Group and Egg on systems integration, consultancy, design, development and implementation, data migration, and latterly UNIX and storage systems administration (specialising in backups and data transfers). I am a member of the BCS "The Chartered Institute to IT", and managed to turn all that hard graft into letters after my name (MBCS CITP).
I also found time to travel a bit, marry, have 3 children, run (cross-country and fell-running when I can), orienteer (lapsed KIMM-er and OMM-er) and mountainbike (one Polaris Challenge, would like to do more). I also enjoy reading (which is just as well!), art, although I haven't had time to paint or draw for some while, and am involved in my local church.
Research: My working thesis title is "Machine Learning in Process Mining", and my supervisors are Dr. Behzad Bordbar and Dr. Peter Tiňo. The other members of my Thesis Group are Dr. Steve Vickers and Dr. Ata Kabán. I am funded by the School of Computer Science (EPSRC). See the Research pages for more information.
