I am always interested in supervising Ph.D. students. At present there are no project-funded positions although there may be in the near future. However, the College of Engineering and Physical Sciences has funding for exceptional candidates, both from the EU and worldwide. International applicants should note that the deadline for scholarship applications tends to be January.
Based on my recent NERC-funded grant, the School has a scholarship for a home/EU student in computing for a topic relevant to the natural environment. The grant was on fault diagnosis for underwater science vehicles, so one possibility would be a topic related to this (including work with the National Oceanography Centre). Others might be on representations of uncertainty in 3d geological modelling (including work with the British Geological Survey). The deadline for this is February 2013. Please contact me if you are interested.
At present I have no research fellow positions open, although this may change soon.

Applications for any position at the University of Birmingham have to go through the Human Resources website. Unfortunately, their search engine doesn't easily let you find positions in Computer Science, and makes it hard for us to directly point at the application page for a specific job. You need to select academic jobs in Engineering and Physical Sciences to get a short list that should include our open positions. Alternatively, put any position number listed above into the HR search engine.
