Rebecca joined Conglomoco shortly after Max Leader as a permanent employee. She has now been with the company for three years. She was recently parachuted into the Medical Devices division from Pharmaceuticals by Max and Jim to turn around the failing Six Sigma initiative within the Medical Devices division and her future career is absolutely linked to her success or failure in doing this. This is a bit of a poisoned chalice, but she views it as an opportunity to establish her reputation as a trouble shooter and thereby secure her move to the next level. Max and Jim are both watching her performance intently as they have earmarked her as senior management potential and just need her to prove her worth. Her role is a very political position. Rebecca is ready to move on. Her dream is to have Max leaderÕs job (CEO), although if she had to she would settle for Jim MediciÕs role as head of the Medical Devices business unit. Mind you, it doesnÕt have to be those specific roles, any equivalent role at another company would do. She is constantly head hunted to so this may happen if sheÕs offered the right deal. Rebecca is responsible for the management of the project pipeline. She is responsible for collecting ideas for improvement projects, assessing these to determine which will strategically deliver the best return on investment and then launching projects as a result. This is a key aspect of her role. A large part of RebeccaÕs job is about managing her six sigma resources. She is very hands on with this and likes to be able to prove that she needs more resources. |

RebeccaÕs main challenge at work is that the majority of people she is taking through six sigma training are older than she is. This is difficult to manage. Rebecca dislikes ConglomocoÕs CFO, John Cash, because he doesnÕt understand the benefits of Six Sigma and wants to close the programme down. She finds that she constantly has to justify the investment the company is making in the initiative and needs the necessary information to enable her to do this. |

Rebecca is a gym member, and tries to go at least twice a week, but doesnÕt often get there due to other things that demand her time and attention. When she can she goes at the weekend, but as sheÕs only got 3 out of every 4 weekends to play with (the others are usually spent travelling for her job), this cannot be relied on either. Rebecca is a frequent flier. |

Rebecca is very IT literate, but predominantly as a user. She astounds people with her knowledge of Excel and Minitab which she uses to crunch data and obtain the information she needs to prove the companyÕs Return on Investment in the Six Sigma programme. In fact she is that good on Minitab that she is able to train others to use it (and often does). Rebecca uses the web a lot. In fact, she used the Internet to get details of the role and make her application. However, because she is often travelling, she is not able to get online often. Because of this she is keen on working offline and synchronizing her files. This means she can use her travel time efficiently. Rebecca has used i-nexus before in a previous role. She used version 2.5 and although she found it useful, was frustrated by its limitations. She thinks the product has moved on recently, and currently has the Executive Replay Dashboard set as her portal page. This does give her some useful information, but does not give her enough ammunition to answer her critics. She needs to be able to name and shame the Six Sigma project sponsors on her team who are not doing their job. However, she needs both the stick and the carrot so that she can apply each at the correct time to achieve maximum effect. |

Review RebeccaÕs perspective on technology, past and future. |
Rebecca is not interested in technology for the sake of it. She sees it as a useful tool to provide her with the information she needs to do her job. She pushes most software to its limits in order to get what she needs from it and finds that she is often frustrated with the limitations that systems impose on her. For example, when she can get the data she needs from various systems, but canÕt get it together in the same system to be able to slice and dice it. |
