Dr. Phillip Smith

I am a lecturer and welfare tutor in the School of Computer Science at the University of Birmingham.

Research Interests

I am interested in natural language processing, in particular, sentiment analysis. I'm looking into how discourse function effects supervised machine learning classifiers trained to tackle this problem.

I have an Erdős number of 4.

In the Autumn of 2017 I will be teaching Professional Computing. In the Spring of 2017, I taught Operating Systems and Networks, and Mobile and Ubiquitous Computing.

If you would like to see me in person regarding any welfare issues I am available at 11:00am on a Monday and midday on a Thursday in LG06c. For all other enquiries please email welfare@cs.bham.ac.uk.
