Applications are invited for a Research Associate (RA) in Natural Computation, e.g., evolutionary and neural computation, in a world-leading research centre, Cercia (www.cercia.com), in the University of Birmingham, UK. The Centre is specialised in applied research and knowledge transfer to industry, and funded by multi-million external grants.
The successful candidate is expected to work with industry closely on different projects. The successful candidate is expected to be an outstanding communicator and excellent problem solver. He/she must be self-motivated, work on his/her own initiative and will be an outstanding team player who can also work independently. A strong postgraduate degree (MSc or higher) in natural computation is essential. Outstanding research achievement or potential is required, evidenced by refereed publications, theses or developed software systems. Industrial experiences are highly valued. It is essential that the successful candidate is keen on applications of natural computation. A solid and broad foundation in computer science or engineering is also essential. We are particular keen on candidates with strong experience and expertise in optimisation, data mining, or creative design using nature inspired approaches.
Starting salary in the range of GBP20,842 to GBP22,774 a year (potential progression on performance once in post to GBP25,633). The position is available with immediate effect until 31 March 2007. Additional funds might be available to extend this appointment, subject to funding availability.
