9. 2010 (Inaugural) University Award for Excellence in Doctoral Research Supervision, University of Birmingham, UK. (Announced in June 2010) Some of the recent achievements by my PhD students:
   • 2010: Huanhuan Chen's PhD thesis (completed in 2008) on "Diversity and Regularization in Neural Network Ensembles" won the 2011 IEEE Computational Intelligence Society Outstanding PhD Dissertation Award in July 2010. The Award was competed globally. Only one award was given in that year.

   • 2009: Huanhuan Chen's PhD thesis (completed in 2008) on "Diversity and Regularization in Neural Network Ensembles" won a CPHC/BCS Distinguished PhD Dissertation Runner up Award.

   • 2008: Siang Yew Chong's PhD thesis (completed in 2007) on "Generalization and Diversity in Co-evolutionary Learning" won the 2009 IEEE Computational Intelligence Society Outstanding PhD Dissertation Award in June 2008. The Award was competed globally. Only one award was given in that year.
