The Module Description is a strict subset of this Syllabus Page.
Outline
Data science is an intrinsically collaborative activity, involving interaction between data scientists and domain experts. This module will emphasise the collaborative nature of data science projects. Students will work in groups of 3-5 on an interdisciplinary project co-supervised by a data scientist and a domain expert on a data science challenge posed by the supervisors. The project will be structured as an entrepreneurship-style activity, where the teams will be asked to develop a “business idea”, including a functioning prototype that demonstrates their idea.
Learning Outcomes
On successful completion of this module, the student should be able to:
- Design and implement a solution to a real data science problem
- Write high quality documentation that explains their solution and how to use it
- Work effectively in a team
Assessment
- Main Assessments: Continuous assessment (100%)
- Supplementary Assessments: Students who fail are reassessed by repeating.
