Tier 4 visa holders and other non-EU students

You are responsible for ensuring that you are working within the limits of your visa. In general, you can take up an industrial placement for a year while a Tier 4 visa holder, provided that the placement is part of a scheme of study; it is therefore vital that you are correctly registered on a "with a year in industry" programme. For other forms of visa, you should consult an appropriate professional for advice: the School of Computer Science cannot give individual advice about your visa status.

Pleas note that the submission of a monthly log is vital for students who do not have the right to work generally in the UK. You must be able to demonstrate to the UKBA that you are working as part of a course or study and that your work is part of your academic programme. You may be given deadlines other than the end of the month, or even asked to submit additional reports, so as to match University of Birmingham contact-point periods . If you do not submit your log in a timely fashion you may be subject to sanctions by the UK Border Agency. If you are unable to submit a monthly log in sufficient detail to make it clear that you are working on a course-related placement then you must contact the Industrial tutor as a matter of urgency.
