CoSy: Cognitive Systems for Cognitive Assistants

A summary of research in the CoSy project

In a crude sense the CoSy project is concerned with understanding how to put the pieces of AI together again. Research in CoSy has been driven by two scenarios: a mobile robot “Explorer”, and a robot that can manipulate everyday objects in collaboration with a human, the “PlayMate”. Research at Birmingham has focused on the second scenario, as a way to answer questions about architectures, vision, manipulation and action. Below we describe the work in this second scenario. Much of the research described below has been carried out with partners in other universities across Europe. Please follow the links to see their work in more detail.
