Job Vacancy: Research Fellow in Evolutionary Optimisation (Algorithms) (Ref. No. S43032)

Applications are invited for a Research Fellow in Evolutionary Optimisation (Algorithms) to work on an EPSRC-funded project on "SEBASE: Software Engineering By Automated SEarch", which is a collaborative project between King's College and the Universities of York and Birmingham. The research at Cercia, School of Computer Science, University of Birmingham will focus on novel evolutionary and other meta-heuristic search algorithms, especially EDAs and hybrid algorithms, for software engineering problems.

The successful candidate is expected to have a PhD in evolutionary optimisation and have excellent knowledge of a broad range of different meta-heuristic algorithms. Software engineering knowledge is important. They must also have excellent problem-solving skills and research achievements evidenced by publications in leading journals and conferences.

New PhDs will be considered, whose achievement or potential may be assessed by their PhD theses. Strong analytical, computational and programming skills are essential. Other essential criteria include communication skills (both written and oral), the ability to work independently as well as a team member, and ability to take initiatives and be proactive. The successful candidate will be rewarded with an outstanding research environment that will support his/her research career.

Starting salary in the range of GBP23,457 to GBP28,009 (potential progression on performance once in post to GBP32,490). This post is available with immediate effect for a period of three years (36 months).
